Because of this balance, Microbiology, 5/e is appropriate for students preparing for careers in medicine, dentistry, nursing, and allied health, as well as research, teaching, and industry. Biology and chemistry are prerequisites. The Fifth Edition has been updated extensively to reflect the latest discoveries in the field. This book is nicely done, all together. The flow of information is well organized, with great cross-references and detailed graphs and pictures to help understand important concepts. Also, several appendices, a glossary, serve as helpful resources. The material is presented in a tasteful manner, not reducing the book to a mere picture book. This book, written for undergraduate and graduate students, gives serious information and is very detailed. <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></span><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);font-size:130%;" ><a style="font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;" href="http://sciencebookss.blogspot.com/2009/06/microbiology-5th-by-lannsing-m.html">Click here to download</a></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-9809928693303801812009-04-19T12:58:00.001-07:002009-06-26T18:18:42.895-07:00Immunology<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images.bestwebbuys.com/muze/books/03/9780716785903.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 138px; height: 177px;" src="http://images.bestwebbuys.com/muze/books/03/9780716785903.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>It's easy to read, easy to understand, very good graphics; Kuby is a very friendly book for new students, and for refreshing many concepts if you are very busy (and I bet you are!). As a result of advances in gene sequencing, biological databases are growing exponentially. It's impossible for even the most zealous researcher to stay on top of necessary information in the field without the aid of computer-based tools. Written in a clear, engaging style, Developing Bioinformatics Computer Skills is for scientists and students who are learning computational approaches to biology, as well as for experienced biology researchers who are just starting to use computers to handle their data. The book covers the Unix file system, building tools and databases for bioinformatics, computational approaches to biological problems, an introduction to Perl for bioinformatics, data mining, data visualization, and tips for tailoring existing data analysis software to individual research needs. Developing Bioinformatics Computer Skills will help biologists develop a structured approach to biological data as well as the tools they'll need to analyze it.<span style="font-family:webdings;"><br /><a href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GTM857V9"><span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 153);font-size:130%;" ><span style="font-family:arial;">Click here to download</span></span></a> </span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-34907189734212820172009-03-06T06:54:00.001-08:002010-05-18T11:45:51.398-07:00Modern Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.blogger.com/%C3%83%C2%B6"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 170px; height: 246px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_tlS4l4lXTTBhCb-XUQ1tYN0sgzJ2P1ckAXnljXgNzn7Jpf7MQWhnFUidQzehWIjbXY_jqDqssItZ5ZIn2i0X-9ejv9mEyAI998NTBYLAHNzx3iYGOaIGPbg-w3pkpwWnOJYOM4Iz8Zo/s400/mimbt.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />This book is directed towards undergraduates and beginning graduate students in microbiology, food science and chemical engineering. Those studying pharmacy, biochemistry and general biology will find it of interest. The section on waste disposal will be of interest to civil engineering and public health students and practitioners. For the benefit of those students who may be unfamiliar with the basic biological assumptions underlying industrial microbiology, such as students of chemical and civil engineering, elements of biology and microbiology are introduced. The new elements which have necessitated the shift in paradigm in industrial microbiology such as bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, site-directed mutation, metabolic engineering, the human genome project and others are also introduced and their relevance to industrial microbiology and biotechnology indicated. As many references as space will permit are included. The various applicationsof industrial microbiology are covered broadly, and the chapters are grouped to reflect these applications. The emphasis throughout, however, is on the physiological, biochemical principles, and where possible, the genomic principles behind these applications<span style="font-family:webdings;">.<br /><a href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TPTKVTI6"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);font-family:arial;font-size:130%;" ><span style="font-weight: bold;">Click here to download</span></span></a></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-58679735518503065962009-03-06T06:50:00.000-08:002010-05-18T11:45:14.715-07:00Biotechnology Unzipped: Promises And Realities<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images.bookbyte.com/isbn.aspx?isbn=9781895579451"><img style="float: left; margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; cursor: pointer; width: 126px; height: 192px;" src="http://images.bookbyte.com/isbn.aspx?isbn=9781895579451" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />BIOTECHNOLOGY UNZIPPED is the most compelling evaluation of biotechnology I have read since Harsanyi & Hutton's GENETIC PROPHECY of almost 20 years ago. What makes this book so insightful is the "tradeoffs" perspective that Grace brings to the subject. In every instance where a particular technique is either in development or on the market, the possibilities for selective breeding, or genetic engineering, or composite materials, all hold both a promise and a peril. Grace, who has a Ph.D. in Zoology and considerable experience as a science writer, attempts to provide enough critical information in each case so that the reader will get a sense of what considerations are involved in any particular "biotechnology solution". What we learn about biotechnology from him is that every biotechnology decision has the following characteristics: * Costs and revenues (developments cost $millions, so the goal is profits) * Winners and losers (the rich could get lucky, the poor and vulnerable may not) * Benefits and detriments (solutions generate unintended & unwanted consequences) * Enthusiasts and detractors (arguments arise on all sides of biotechnology issues) The reason that the public is so ambivalent about biotechnology is that its supporters have been so inept at making their case. Biotechnology advocates seem to think that their's is just a problem of an "uninformed public" whom they can re- assure because they have "the facts". They obviously don't appreciate the most important principle of new-age , "They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care". What Grace shows is that the public does have cause to be concerned. There are no simple problems, no silver bullets, and no final solutions, even if biotechnology boosters pretend there are. If biotechnology advocates become willing to address these concerns, AND learn to manage the expectations of their stakeholders, then they can begin to earn the respect that will otherwise continue to elude them. Grace's book helps clarify all of this. . Grace's book helps clarify all of this.<br /> <span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);font-family:arial;font-size:130%;" ><a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GB1HN1QE">Click here to download</a></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-48697994911253391082009-03-04T22:50:00.000-08:002010-05-18T11:49:24.964-07:00Molecular Biology of Protein Folding<span style="font-size:100%;"><img src="http://www.bioxplorer.com/images/stories/Books_2009_02/pimbatsv832008.jpg" alt="Image" title="Image" width="133" align="right" border="0" height="200" hspace="6" /></span> <p><span style=";font-family:verdana,geneva;font-size:100%;" > <strong>Author(s):</strong> P. Each chapter addresses the structure and function of proteins with a definitive theme designed to enhance student understanding. Opening with a brief historical overview of the subject the book moves on to discuss the ‘building blocks’ of proteins and their respective chemical and physical properties. Later chapters explore experimental and computational methods of comparing proteins, methods of protein purification and protein folding and stability. The authors have selected the very best experts for each of the areas. The first part of the book summarizes the most important aspects of winemaking technology and microbiology. The second most extensive part deals with the different groups of compounds, how these are modified during the various steps of the production process, and how they affect the wine quality, sensorial aspects, and physiological activity, etc. The third section describes undesirable alterations of wines, including those affecting quality and food safety. Finally, the treatment of data will be considered, an aspect which has not yet been tackled in any other book on enology. In this chapter, the authors not only explain the tools available for analytical data processing, but also indicate the most appropriate treatment to apply, depending on the information required, illustrating with examples throughout the chapter from enological literature.<span style="font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 100%;"></span><span style="font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 100%;"></span><h3 class="post-title entry-title"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://sciencebookss.blogspot.com/2009/02/wine-chemistry-and-biochemistry.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPgaNF2d9o2PeEnHFkkmotG4Xd8fugZaB4SHNT1KD6d4iBC8Wu51mWotoo0F4davnkXsEGOCP0fxQQZut3cfbHUt8hZH4eSj_JSSsp9IwEAKfD7Sywapfd56B3zETGMk-AqbF-RX1wELM/s320/click+here.icon.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292867526070500258" border="0"></a></h3>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-44585119497871794272009-02-14T13:15:00.000-08:002009-02-15T07:04:08.507-08:00Mitochondria, 2nd edition <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="f"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 178px; height: 271px;" src="http://www.chipsbooks.com/mitochnd.jpg" alt="" border="0"></a><br />This book is the eagerly awaited second edition of the best-selling <b><i>Mitochondria</i></b>, a book widely acknowledged as the first modern, truly comprehensive authored work on the important, scientifically fundamental topic of the cellular organelles known as mitochondria. <p>This new edition brings readers completely up to date on the many significant findings that have occurred in the eight years since the book was first published. In its traditional sense, the term 'molecular biology' refers to study of the macromolecules essential to life — nucleic acids and proteins. The field of cell biology is a natural extension of this, integrating what we know at the molecular level into an understanding of processes and interactions at the cellular level. Only by combining both fields can we paint a broad picture of essential biological processes such as how cells divide, grow, communicate and die.<br /><br />Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology takes readers on a journey from the nucleus of a cell to its boundaries and beyond. These exciting prospects are accompanied by considerable unease, however, about matters such as safety and ethics. This book identifies science-based and policy-related concerns about animal biotechnologykey issues that must be resolved before the new breakthroughs can reach their potential. The book includes a short history of the field and provides understandable definitions of terms like cloning. Looking at technologies on the near horizon, the authors discuss what we know and what we fear about their effectsthe inadvertent release of dangerous microorganisms, the safety of products derived from biotechnology, the impact of genetically engineered animals on their environment. In addition to these concerns, the book explores animal welfare concerns, and our societal and institutional capacity to manage and regulate the technology and its products. This accessible volume will be important to everyone interested in the implications of the use of animal biotechnology.<span style="font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 100%;">t</span></p><h3 class="post-title entry-title"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://bioebook.blogspot.com/2009/02/animal-biotechnology-science-based.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPgaNF2d9o2PeEnHFkkmotG4Xd8fugZaB4SHNT1KD6d4iBC8Wu51mWotoo0F4davnkXsEGOCP0fxQQZut3cfbHUt8hZH4eSj_JSSsp9IwEAKfD7Sywapfd56B3zETGMk-AqbF-RX1wELM/s320/click+here.icon.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292867526070500258" border="0" /></a></h3></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-32562172865728869172009-01-21T02:24:00.000-08:002009-01-21T02:25:01.782-08:00Science Magazine ~ Vol 323 16th January 2009<h3 class="post-title entry-title"> <a href="http://sciencebookss.blogspot.com/2009/01/science-magazine-vol-323-16th-january.html"><br /></a> </h3> <span class="meta"></span> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyZbXRjH3YD9lbIypXJFck_QT4dU-BsyQDzsd00Gs9yMXYux9pxVCQ-aayoS_FrnqMvzgWpSmaRDZgLFYrI6-GDqZ-gxoq_7IipDf7F1uT1FTOsCMIN_TwduO17R3UyWrHJ81pkMg-3xbX/s1600-h/covermed.gif"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 189px; height: 254px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyZbXRjH3YD9lbIypXJFck_QT4dU-BsyQDzsd00Gs9yMXYux9pxVCQ-aayoS_FrnqMvzgWpSmaRDZgLFYrI6-GDqZ-gxoq_7IipDf7F1uT1FTOsCMIN_TwduO17R3UyWrHJ81pkMg-3xbX/s320/covermed.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5277598068904958162" border="0" /></a><br /><div class="post-body"><p><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://sciencebookss.blogspot.com/2009/01/science-magazine-vol-323-16th-january.html"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihjAqIauhSBJiHv-C6DVIP3kcUo2iKaUpyqzWy0ZR5FIxGAfuQgTvSbPIqlfxTNq_CVTKSt1PO-qXi_Gm8KXcd9sFVyGWPxK-Y4hzRKRRLhndFuwL24QIi_79MKy19rPI_Ps2MaXjzBi4/s320/click+here.icon.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279191135111157794" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.ziddu.com/download/2838202/Science20070504.pdf.html"><br /></a></p></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-86294006102099249872009-01-21T02:22:00.000-08:002009-01-21T02:24:25.002-08:00New Sciet ntist magaz ine - 29th November 2008<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiygx44OdK_7bI_OYVZkDlp061BtGshxN1SgQMLUitvUSe6hhSmCvyymWkIO2dLAnreBHjaDPW-nGP0GSHSDHWNe8CPDnt0eoV8NqqwteQ8pb00hrvmK3HJcS4xdlrNDLCgoaxRUw1Za3w8/s1600-h/s.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 242px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiygx44OdK_7bI_OYVZkDlp061BtGshxN1SgQMLUitvUSe6hhSmCvyymWkIO2dLAnreBHjaDPW-nGP0GSHSDHWNe8CPDnt0eoV8NqqwteQ8pb00hrvmK3HJcS4xdlrNDLCgoaxRUw1Za3w8/s320/s.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293688959158599602" border="0" /></a><h3 class="post-title entry-title"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://sciencebookss.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-scientist-magazine-29th-november.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPgaNF2d9o2PeEnHFkkmotG4Xd8fugZaB4SHNT1KD6d4iBC8Wu51mWotoo0F4davnkXsEGOCP0fxQQZut3cfbHUt8hZH4eSj_JSSsp9IwEAKfD7Sywapfd56B3zETGMk-AqbF-RX1wELM/s320/click+here.icon.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292867526070500258" border="0" /></a></h3> <h3 class="post-title entry-title"> </h3>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7246518784015027555.post-69494766416771778202009-01-21T02:21:00.000-08:002009-01-21T02:22:46.116-08:00RNA Technologies in Cardiovascular Medicine and Research<span style="font-size: 100%;"><img src="http://www.bioxplorer.com/images/stories/Books_2008_07/rnaticmar2008.jpg" alt="Image" title="Image" width="132" align="left" border="0" height="200" hspace="6" /></span><span style="font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 100%;"><strong></strong>In this book the authors review the field and explore the potential role of RNAi and other R</span><span style="font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 100%;">NA technologies in cardiovascular medicine and research. Fifty years after physicist Erwin Schrodinger posed this question in his celebrated and inspiring book, the answer remains elusive. In The Way of the Cell, one of the world's most respected microbiologists draws on his wide knowledge of contemporary science to provide fresh insight into this intriguing and all-important question.<br />What is the relationship of living things to the inanimate realm of chemistry and physics? How do lifeless but special chemicals come together to form those intricate dynamic ensembles that we recognize as life? To shed light on these questions, Franklin Harold focuses here on microorganisms--in particular, the supremely well-researc<h3 class="post-title entry-title"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://sciencebookss.blogspot.com/2009/01/way-of-cell-molecules-organisms-and.html"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPgaNF2d9o2PeEnHFkkmotG4Xd8fugZaB4SHNT1KD6d4iBC8Wu51mWotoo0F4davnkXsEGOCP0fxQQZut3cfbHUt8hZH4eSj_JSSsp9IwEAKfD7Sywapfd56B3zETGMk-AqbF-RX1wELM/s320/click+here.icon.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292867526070500258" border="0" /></a></h3> hed bacterium E. coli --because the cell is the simplest level of organization that manifests all the features of the phenomenon of life.
